About Greensboro

Greensboro originally was a small center of government that evolved into an early 1900s textile and transportation hub. It was called the “Gate City” due to its historic railroads and still retains the name because of the many major highways that cross here. As a transportation and manufacturing hub, the city has attracted companies such as Federal Express and Dell to locate in the area. Greensboro is a growing and vibrant city with a population of nearly a quarter million people. Among its many honors, Greensboro was awarded with entry to the Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Hall of Fame in 2004.
